Foreign Ministry on Sunday condemned the Israeli excavations in the Buraq Wall Square, which is an integral part of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, as well as the excavations near the Bab al-Maghariba hill.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Deifallah Fayez reiterated the Kingdom’s rejection and denouncement of all unilateral Israeli measures in the occupied East Jerusalem, in the Old City, and in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, in violation of international law.
Fayez affirmed that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department (JAD) is the sole institution responsible for administrating the affairs of Al Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, with its entire area of 144 dunums, including its mosques, squares, walls and gates, in accordance with international law and the status quo, stressing that all maintenance and restoration works in the mosque and its surroundings are within the exclusive mandate of the JAD.
Fayez called on the Israeli authorities to immediately stop the ongoing continued excavations and abide by its obligations as an occupying power in the occupied East Jerusalem under international law, and to stop violating the identity of the Old City or changing its identity.
