The Senate's Labor and Social Development Committee, headed by Issa Haider Murad, has looked into conditions of the Kingdom's labor market, education and vocational training and unemployment, and Covid-19 pandemic's implications on economic sectors.
During its meeting on Sunday, the committee discussed the government's policies in employment, vocational and technical training fields, and means to regulate the labor market and e-services, stressing the importance of attracting investments to solve the unemployment problem.
Murad stressed the need to revisit laws, regulations and legislation related to the economic sector, aimed to creating a lucrative environment to lure foreign, domestic local investments.
Noting its importance, he added that this legislative revamp would build a national economy capable of sustainability and growth, create job opportunities for Jordanians that would positively reflect on the citizens' living standards.
The gov't policy statement, he said, focused on the public-private sectors' partnership, which is based on entrepreneurship and economic opportunities, especially small and medium-sized enterprises.
In their turn, the committee's members stressed the necessity of reviewing the national employment strategy, which aims to provide 18,000 job opportunities in various fields, noting the importance of raising efficiency of technical education and vocational training outcomes.
Moreover, the committee called for the need to find 'sustainable' solutions that address the unemployment problem, reduce its increasing rates, in addition to the possibility of developing implementable strategies, based on clearly defined axes and specific timeframe to address Covid-19 crisis's repercussions.
