Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, met on Thursday, the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Joel D. Rayburn.
During the meeting, Safadi and Rayburn discussed ways to develop cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the joint strategic partnership.
Moreover, discussions went over developments in efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
Safadi stressed the need to intensify efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis that preserves Syria's unity and cohesion, roots out terrorism, restores its security and stability, and creates conditions for the voluntary return of refugees.
Ruling out the military solution to the Syrian crisis, Safadi said a political solution is the only way to end the tragedy that has caused destruction, devastation and killing.
Safadi also stressed the need to maintain stability and provide the necessary humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of Syrians, especially in southern Syria, stressing the importance of an 'active' Arab role in efforts to resolve the crisis.
The duo stressed the two countries' keenness to strengthen bilateral relations, develop cooperation and coordination in efforts to solve regional crises and establish security and stability.
