The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has decided to exclude laptops and PCs (new and used) from getting previous approvals to enter the Kingdom, said Ghazi Jbour, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners.
In a statement on Wednesday, Jbour said the measure came after multiple meetings with representatives of the ICT sector to encourage traders and importers to bring in laptops and PCs.
The decision was made in response to feedback from the sector on the instructions for specific approvals and entry of communications equipment issued by the Board early last year.
The instructions excluded communications equipment from obtaining import approvals, provided they do not violate legislation, to boost competitiveness, reduce prices, and increase options for citizens, he stated.
The move, Jbour added, is expected to stock the market with sufficient quantities of communications equipment and at competitive prices, especially with the increase in demand following the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in distance learning.
