Health Minister, Nazir Obeidat, said that one million doses of the coronavirus vaccines will be available within two or three weeks, and that it will be given for free.
'Jordan participated in the COVAX coalition to provide sufficient vaccinations for 10 percent of the population,' Obeidat said in a press conference held Monday in the Prime Ministry.
Obeidat added that the ministry is trying to obtain two million doses of the 'Pfizer' vaccine for 20-25 percent of the population, noting that the vaccination will be given for free, and the ministry's duty is to secure vaccines in cases of pandemics, according to the Public Health Law.
'There are no risks from the Covid-19 vaccines,' the Health Minister underlined, indicating that there is no proof that the vaccine has become less effective after the recording new strain of the virus, calling on citizens to register via the vaccine's website to protect society and help end the pandemic.
Obeidat explained that the vaccine will be given voluntarily to groups as per priorities set by the ministry, and the priority for the most vulnerable groups and those with chronic diseases, indicating that each person will determine the place and time in which the vaccine will be given.
He said that a new type of rapid Coronavirus tests will available in Jordan next week, and will be used in some facilities that contain large crowds such as factories.
The minister explained that the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom is stable, and indicators are going well. 'We are still battling the virus, and we must be careful and avoid gatherings, events and celebrations, and we also need to wear masks properly and use sterilizers,' Obeidat emphasized.
On the new mutated strain from (Covid-19), the Health Minister said, 'So far, there are 5 cases in Jordan that are being monitored by epidemiological investigation teams, and we hope that this strain does not lead to a change in the behavior of the coronavirus.'
He also announced that a field hospital would soon be opened in Irbid, and a field hospital in Aqaba.
'The epidemiological situation will be reviewed within ten days, and we will announce new measures, including the blanket lockdown, on Fridays,' he concluded.
