Assessment results of Risha Field’s Well 53 showed it had a daily production capacity of 8 million cubic feet (mcf) of natural gas, Director General of the National Petroleum Company (NPC), Mohammed Khasawneh, announced Wednesday.
In a statement, Khasawneh said the new results increase the production of the Risha Field from 19mcf to 27mcf.
The Director General highlighted the importance of the assessment results in enabling the NPC to implement its phase-based strategic plan, which aims at increasing gas production and raising the contribution of local energy resources in the total energy mix.
Two weeks ago, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati announced that the drilling in Well 53 in Risha gas field has shown 'promising results', as the potential size of production would be announced by the end of 2020.
Zawati stressed that this achievement comes in line with the 2020-2030 comprehensive strategy for energy, which aims at increasing the local generation of electricity to contribute 48.5 per cent of total consumption in 2030 compared with 15 per cent in 2019.
