President of the Senate: 'We reject any attempt to undermine social fabric'
Senate President Faisal Fayez condemned an attack in a Amman street on a mother and her daughter by unknown persons, and warned such 'isolated incidents should not be exploited to undermine social cohesion.'
'This attack, which is alien to our values, ethics and traditions, is totally rejected, and it is unacceptable to use such incidents to cause chaos in our society,' he commented on the attack, which was followed by attacks on public property.
Fayez urged the competent authorities to arrest the perpetrators of the attacks and the vandals and refer them to the judicial authorities.
He said that the national interest should hold supreme in the current circumstances and challenges 'in order to protect our social fabric and stand firmly against those who try to tamper with our national fundamentals or promote violence and racism based on region or tribe,' adding that national security is a collective responsibility that should be safeguarded.
