United Nations Development Program to publish its annual Human Development Report Sunday
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), is set on Sunday to launch its Annual Human Development Report (HDR), in a ceremony hosted by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), attended by Minister of Environment, Nabil Masarweh, and the Resident Representative at UNDP Jordan, Sara Ferrer Olivella.
In a press statement on Saturday, the UNDP said the 2020 report is entitled: ‘The Next Frontier: Human Development and the Anthropocene,’ which coincides with the Cabinet's approval to establish the first marine reserve in Jordan, with the support and implementation of the UNDP, Ministry of Environment and the ASEZA, in order to achieve sustainable development.
Coinciding with its 30th anniversary, the 2020 report launch confirms the keenness to orchestrate efforts seeking to implement the sustainable development goals, and the necessity to achieve a balance between development, preserving human resources and curbing climate change, according to the statement.
The launch also demonstrates the world's inability so far to reach alignment between achieving high levels of human development on the one hand, and reducing pressure on natural resources on the other hand, the UNDP pointed out.
According to the statement, the 2020 report is 'distinguished' by the inclusion of new elements to assess human development, including the size of pressure on natural resources, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions per country, in addition to the previous indicators on levels of health, education, poverty, inequality, and living standards.
