Lower House Speaker Abdel Moneim Odat called on the new legislature to convene on Monday in its first ordinary session to choose its 15 permanent committees.
The legislature elects its committees, each comprising 11 members as a maximum and 5 as a minimum, at the start of its ordinary session.
Consensus can be reached on the formation of the committees according to the Executive Office's decision based on the proportional representation of parliamentary blocs. If a decision cannot be reached within 14 days from the start of the ordinary session, then members are elected if the number of candidates exceeds the prescribed number, and each committee elects its own chairman and rapporteur.
A lawmaker cannot combine membership in the committees and membership in the Permanent Office.
