16 Lower House members announce formation of a new bloc
Sixteen Lower House members said Tuesday they are forming a new parliamentary bloc, which they named al Azm (resolve).
The legislators said in a press release that they chose MP Khaled Abu Hassan as the bloc's chief during a meeting to discuss its priorities and action programme in the next stage, noting that programme-based collective parliamentary work is the way forward to advance the legislature's oversight and legislative role.
The bloc said that His Majesty King Abdullah's speech from the throne inaugurating the 19th Jordanian Parliament's extraordinary session charted the path in the next stage, and it is a roadmap for the functions of the executive, legislative and judicial authorities.
The bloc said it discussed a number of issues on the House's agenda, top of which are a vote of trust in the government and the state budget.
