King to open Parliament’s 19th ordinary session on Thursday
His Majesty King Abdullah is scheduled on Thursday to open the 19th Parliament’s ordinary session with the Speech from the Throne.
This year session will start amid precautionary and preventive measures imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, where attendance will be limited to members of the Senate, House of Representatives and the government, as well as distributing seats location, so that seats of MPs are under the dome, and senates and the cabinet are on balconies with a commitment to wear masks.
The Senate and the House of Representatives, separately, shall raise their response to the Speech from the Throne within two weeks of the start of the session.
The Senate will later hold a meeting chaired by Senate President Faisal Fayez to read the Royal Decree that includes, proroguing Parliament’s extraordinary session as of December 10, the second adjourning its ordinary session until November 10. This is followed by electing the two Senate's vice-presidents and the assistants and selecting a committee to respond to the Speech from the Throne.
After the Senate meeting, the Lower House will hold its first meeting to present the winning MPs.
