Minister of Health, Nazir Obeidat, said that the epidemiological situation in Jordan has been stable for two weeks and is heading towards decreasing as the number of new infections with the coronavirus (Covid-19) is declining.
'The Kingdom is still at the heart of the battle, and we must fight the coronavirus with all available capabilities and adhere to public safety measures by wearing face masks the right way, adhering to physical distancing and avoiding gatherings,' Obeidat said in press conference held Monday at the Prime Ministry.
He indicated that the Kingdom has signed contracts with a number of international companies to secure the vaccine expected to arrive in the first quarter of next year, stressing that Jordan will only accept safe and effective vaccines that pass all stages related to dealing with them.
The minister added that field hospitals will be received on time, and health personnel that will deal with patients in field hospitals will be trained and upskilled.
With regard to the cost of treatment in private hospitals, Obeidat emphasized that a complaints committee was formed from the Ministry of Health and the Association of Private Hospitals to look into complaints and remarks about the pricing, indicating that there is a new pricing, which was issued clearly and precisely through the classification of medical care in hospitals: first, regular, medium and intensive care classes.
In response to a question by the Jordan News Agency (Petra) regarding the color classification of countries; Red, green and yellow, Obeidat said, that dealing with people coming from countries is no longer according to their epidemiological classification, especially since there is isolation and home quarantine currently imposed on travelers.
Obaidat noted that there were sudden cases of death resulting from clots in the arteries and veins, but they were 'few and limited'.
He pointed out that the priority of giving the vaccine indicates that seniors, especially those suffering from chronic diseases, will be at the forefront, and health cadres will also be a priority, according to age and if they have chronic diseases.
The Minister of Health said that the cost of the PCR test is being reviewed constantly, in addition to the cost of treatment.
Also speaking at the press conference, Secretary General of the Health Ministry for epidemiological affairs and the official in charge of the COVID-19 crisis, Wael Hayajneh, said patients admitted to hospitals is sometimes on suspicion, not only for confirmed cases, indicating that the recorded infections among males are more than females, and the most infected age groups are between 25-34 years, and that the number of deaths is heading towards stability.
Hayajneh explained that the confirmed cases are grouped in one room, while suspect cases are separated in different rooms, noting that Jordan is witnessing a decrease in the number of confirmed cases during the 48th week compared to previous weeks.
On Jordan's production of vaccines, the health official explained that the production of vaccines is more complicated than the production of medicines, and it takes 5 to 7 years in normal circumstances in addition to a very strong infrastructure.
Hayajneh called on citizens to adhere to physical distancing and wearing face masks, adding that the commitment is the reason for the stability of the epidemic curve in Jordan.
