Adaileh : Gov't committed to enforcing royal directives to counter corruption
AMMONNEWS - Minister of State for Media Affairs, Amjad Adaileh said that the government is committed to enforcing the royal directives to counter corruption and develop the necessary regulatory and legal tools for this purpose.
Speaking during a joint press conference with Ministers of Justice, Finance and Health held at the Prime Ministry on Sunday, Adaileh said the Cabinet approved, during its meeting that was chaired by Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Sunday, a draft law amending the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Law of 2020, as a prelude to referring it to the Lower House of Parliament for approval according to constitutional principles.
He explained that the amendments grant the Jordan Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC) more financial and administrative autonomy, in a manner that enables it to perform its duties, and enhances its capabilities in pursuing corruption-related cases; this is in light of the nature and seriousness of the cases the JIACC deals with.
The new amendments, according to Adaileh, also grant the JIACC the right to conduct investigations related to money laundering crimes resulting from corruption cases, and to make reconciliations with perpetrators of these crimes if they return the money they obtained or were subject to settlements according to the provisions of the Economic Crime Law, provided that the judicial committee, formed under that law, grants its approval in manner that directly and tangibly contribute to activating the recovery of funds and assets arising from acts of corruption.
He noted that the new amendments enhance the monitoring of the abnormal growth of wealth for persons subject to the provisions of this law, address the issue of publishing fake information, discrediting persons, and exploiting powers in corruption crimes.
On the government's efforts to combat tax evasion, Adaileh said, 'We are all in this country under the rule of law, and therefore no one will be treated in an unfair manner. We are keen on Jordan's reputation locally and abroad, and we are also keen on the interests of investors because in the end it is a national interest.'
He stressed that combating evasion does not harm the country's reputation, but rather reinforces it, 'but it is the tax evasion and turning a blind eye to it that damage the country's reputation.'
Adaileh pointed out that the Cabinet also approved a number of draft laws and systems.
The Minister also said that the Defense Order No. 11, which imposes penalties on every facility where its employees or visitors do not commit to wearing masks, or practices that jeopardize the health and safety of citizens, will be activated.
On the government's response to Israel's threats to annex the Jordan Valley lands, the State Minister of State said that King Abdullah had a series of contacts with world leaders during the past days, and the Foreign Minister also had contacts with his counterparts in the European Union and the Arab countries to discuss developments relating to in this subject.
Adaileh reiterated that Jordan will have an official response if the Israeli government implements the annexation decision, stressing that a just and comprehensive peace is protected by peoples and preserved by future generations, adding, 'Otherwise this region will not be stable and neither Israel nor others unless the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people are restored.'
