AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Monday checked on the condition of citizens in Irbid, which is under lockdown as part of the government's measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic, and was reassured on the level of services provided in the northern governorate.
In a meeting via teleconference with the governor of Irbid, the director of the King Abdullah University Hospital and the Northern Military Zone's commander, the Premier conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the people of Irbid and to all medical, nursing, administrative, military and security personnel working in the field, voicing his appreciation for their efforts to control the pandemic and prevent its spread.
During the meeting from the National Center for Security and Crisis Management, which also included Interior Minister Salameh Hammad and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Hunaiti, Razzaz said that all the agencies working in the northern region were 'a real success story' in limiting the spread of the virus.
The Prime Minister praised the 'high level' of awareness and commitment displayed by the citizens of Irbid, and their compliance with the instructions of the competent authorities, noting that he can see, via video technology, that most of the streets in the city of Irbid are almost empty of pedestrians, except for cars and buses that are distributing basic and essential supplies to the citizens.
Razzaz noted that the lockdown imposed in the governorate 'came to protect our people in Irbid and to preserve their safety, where, thank God, the measure had achieved the desired results through a in the number of cases recorded there.'
He said that the precautionary measures are 'very necessary,' adding that when there is suspicion of virus infections in a certain area, it will be closed to protect its residents and all the citizens.
He stressed that the efforts of all concerned authorities should be coordinated to deliver food and basic supplies to the population, especially in the areas where mobility is prohibited.
Addressing the people of Irbid governorate, Razzaz said, 'Our people in Irbid, we are with you heart and soul. It is a hard time that will pass, God willing, thanks to this vigor and the will that you all have.'
