King visits two agricultural projects in Northern Ghor
AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, on Tuesday visited two agricultural projects in the Northern Ghor District, affiliated with the Economic and Social Association of Retired Servicemen and Veterans.
In Baqura in the Northern Ghor, King Abdullah toured the Baqura Date Palm Farm, a Royal initiative project that encompasses an area of 1,165 dunums, and includes 8,000 palm trees, 7,000 citrus trees, and 500 pomegranate trees.
During a tour of the project, which employs 28 military retirees, His Majesty was briefed on the types of dates produced by the farm and future plans to increase its output of dates from 163 tonnes to 300 tonnes by 2023.
The King spoke with some of the farmers about their experience working on the project, commending their efforts and stressing the value of such projects in employing military retirees and providing funds to the Economic and Social Association of Retired Servicemen and Veterans to continue its services.
In Manshiya, His Majesty visited the Fishery, Citrus Cultivation and Honey Production Farm, which takes up 106 dunums of land adjacent to the Jordan River, and provides employment opportunities for 14 military retirees and members of the local community.
The King directed stakeholders to develop the fishery by equipping it with the latest technologies and upgrading the farming methods used, which in turn would provide more jobs for military retirees, achieve profit, and meet market demand.
His Majesty was briefed on this project, which includes 65 dunums cultivated with 1,400 citrus trees, 104 pools for various types of fish, and 80 beehives that produced 750 kilogrammes of honey last year, with plans to increase their number to 100 beehives this year.
