New Jordanian-Turkish trade agreement cements ties, says JCI chief
AMMONNEWS - President of Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) Fathi Jaghbir said the recently signed trade and economic cooperation deal between Jordan and Turkey does not mean reviving the free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries, which Jordan terminated last year.
In a press statement on Wednesday, Jaghbir noted the new agreement is a cornerstone in bilateral trade and economic relations on a basis that guarantees the interests of both parties equally.
Discussing feasibility of suspending the Jordanian-Turkish FTA, he said this step has reflected clearly on the national economy and contributed directly to reducing the trade deficit and protecting the Jordanian product from the huge flow of some Turkish imports into the local market.
Commenting on the new agreement, he said it covers the areas of knowledge and technology transfer, exchange of experiences, and the organization of mutual visits of trade delegations through the establishment of a joint economic committee (JEC).
