AMMONNEWS - Jordan and Lebanon on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of energy and expertise exchange, within the framework of the Eight Countries Electric Interconnection Project, (named EIJLLPST).
The MoU was signed by Hala Zawati, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, and her Lebanese counterpart, Nada Boustani.
The memorandum, which was signed on the sidelines of the International Beirut Energy Forum (IBEF) 2019, which opened in the Lebanese capital today and will run until Friday, will help the electricity companies in both countries to launch negotiations to exchange electricity.
In a press statement following signing the MoU, Zawati expressed Jordan's readiness to meet part of Lebanon's electricity needs within the framework of orchestrating efforts to face the common challenges.
Discussing energy supply security, Zawati called for concerted regional and international efforts to facilitate the energy transformation process and to meet the technical and geopolitical challenges of the energy sector, triggered by energy markets and price fluctuations, to ensure affordable prices in a sustainable manner.
