Depression forecast to bring rain, snow across Kingdom
AMMONNEWS - A tangible in temperatures is expected Wednesday as the country is affected by a wet and cold air mass accompanied by a depression centered over Syria, bringing rain across many parts, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily brief.
Heavy rain accompanied by hail and thunder are also expected, which might form floods in valleys and low-lying areas, the JMD said further.
Winds will be westerly brisk picking up at times with speed reaching 60-70 km/h, and stirring dust in the desert.
Daytime temperatures expected for today in Amman will reach 9 degrees Celsius, 10 in the northern cities and 7 in the southern governorates, dropping down to 5, 6 and 3 respectively. The weather will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 22 degrees Celsius and lows standing at 11, the JMD explained.
Temperatures will continue to on Thursday bringing chilly conditions with heavy rain that may also be accompanied by thunder and hail in some regions, forming floods in valleys including Aqaba city. Snowflakes are also expected to be seen in highlands.
At night, more snowfall is expected in the mountainous heights that are more than 1,000 meters above sea level, while winds will be westerly brisk picking up at times with speed reaching 70-80 km/h, and stirring dust in the desert.
Mercury levels will slightly rise on Friday, but the weather will remain very cold and cloudy with scattered showers especially in the western regions, with a chance for snow in early morning hours in the highlands, the JMD added .
