Jordanian efforts culminate in release of Israel-held Jerusalem Awqaf officials
AMMONNEWS - Following extensive Jordanian contacts and communication, Israel released Sunday evening two key Jerusalem Awqaf officials whom it detained earlier in the day, State Minister for Media Affairs Jumana Ghuneimat announced.
The minister said Chairman of Awqaf Council in Jerusalem Sheikh Abdul-Azim Salhab and Deputy Director of Awqaf in Jerusalem Sheikh Najeh Bkerat and other Awqaf employees, detained over the past few days, are all released now.
Ghunaimat, who is also the government spokesperson, emphasized that the Jordanian government will do its utmost to defend the occupied city of Jerusalem and its holy sites and counter all condemned and rejected Israeli violations.
She demanded Israel to respect the Jerusalem Waqf Department which has sole and exclusive authority over the Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Haram Al Sharif compound under international law.
