Foreign Ministry slams Israel's detention of Jerusalem Waqf head
AMMONNEWS - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Sunday slammed Israel's arrest of a senior Palestinian Waqf official in Jerusalem.
'Such Israeli provocative measures are categorically rejected by Jordan', said Soufian Qudah, Spokesman of the ministry.
Israeli police Sunday detained Chairman of Awqaf Council in Jerusalem, Sheikh Abdul-Azim Salhab.
Qudah, moreover, emphasized that under international law, the Jerusalem Waqf Department is the sole party which has exclusive jurisdictions over Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al-Sharif affairs, noting that the ministry has lodged a formal protest against such Israeli violations.
Such unilateral actions to against Jerusalem's holy shrines are null and void and will only further tension, he warned, demanding the immediate release of Sheikh Abdul-Azim Salhab and other Waqf officials.
