Netherlands pledges new aid to Kingdom, says ambassador
AMMONNEWS - The Dutch Ambassador to Jordan, Barbara Joziasse, said her country will announce a new financial aid to the Kingdom at the donor conference scheduled to be held today in Brussels.
The Kingdom will receive the assistance package in recognition of its efforts made under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II in hosting and supporting Syrian refugees, she noted.
During a press conference held on the occasion of the Netherlands' celebrations of King Willem-Alexander on Wednesday, the envoy said the two countries are scheduled to hold meetings at the port city of Aqaba before the end of this year to discuss anti-terrorism cooperation.
On a related context, she lauded Jordan's role in the fight against terrorism and its cooperation with Amsterdam in this field, as the two countries are members of the international coalition against Da'esh.
During the recent visit of His Majesty, she said the two sides agreed to cooperate in agriculture and water management domains in a bid to improve Jordan's agricultural production, especially in light of the Netherland's prominent experience in this field, which ranked the second best country in the world in agriculture and integrated effective and advanced technology.
The envoy stressed the importance of Jordan's role in receiving and hosting Syrian refugees and providing them with the necessary services, and added her country 'is aware of the great burdens borne by the Kingdom in this aspect'.
She said the Netherlands has many programs in Jordan worth $100 million that focus on supporting the hosting of refugees, and on providing them with educational services, adding her country is cooperating with various United Nations organizations to this end.
'We will continue to support Jordan in various fields, especially education, and will boost cooperation in the field of economic growth and job creation. We want to be involved in vocational training,' she said.
On Dutch investments in Jordan worth 175 million euros, she said they cover the solar energy sector and the Aqaba economic area.
In response to a question on US administration's decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem, she said 'the Dutch foreign minister deemed this step as unwise,' affirming that 'the Netherlands will not transfer its embassy to Jerusalem.'
