AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister, Hani Mulki, on Sunday, chaired an Economic Policy Council meeting that discussed the structural financial reform program and the economic growth stimulus plan.
The prime minister stressed the importance of economic stimulus programs to spur economic growth, give the Jordanian economy greater strength and enhance its ability to meet all challenges and enhance its competitiveness.
Al Mulki pointed out to several internal and external factors that have affected Jordan's economy and burdened it. He talked about security-related challenges that have also affected the Kingdom's economy and contributed to a decline in economic growth during the last few years and a rise in public debt.
He emphasized the importance of self-dependence as a strategic goal, in order to strengthen the economy and increase its capacity to grow and provide more jobs.
He said economic stimulus measures will be reviewed through an administrative unit in the Prime Ministry to monitor the performance and achievement of the government in order to determine the percentage of achievement in each.
He reviewed the general framework of the structural financial reform program, which aims at addressing imbalances facing the economy and put it back on the right track.
He also said the government is determined to improve tax collection and tighten penalties for tax evasion.
The council's members shared their views on stimulating the economy and increasing its growth, stressing the importance of controlling government expenditure and avoid spending outside the budget.
