King meets with heads of state participating in WEF
AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Saturday held a series of meetings with heads of state and senior officials attending the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa, currently underway on Dead Sea shores.
His Majesty met with the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Gjorge Ivanov, for a discussion on means to cement economic cooperation between Jordan and Macedonia in addition to counterterror efforts.
In another meeting, the King discussed with President of the Republic of Kosovo Hashim Thaci, prospects for closer political relations between the Kingdom and the Balkan nation and regional and international efforts to combat terrorism and extremism.
The King also held talks with President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou, on means of enhancing relations between the two countries, in addition to the war on terror. The meeting also discussed developments in the Middle East.
King Abdullah also held a meeting with President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, and discussed with him relations between Jordan and Cyprus. The meeting touched on the mounting burdens borne by Jordan due to the Syrian refugee crisis.
In this context, the Cypriot president commended the Kingdom's efforts and urged the international community to support Jordan to enable it to continue providing humanitarian and relief services to the refugees.
In another separate meeting, His Majesty discussed with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, bilateral relations and means of developing them in various fields, especially in the economic domain.
The meeting discussed the importance of launching a direct air route between Jordan and Georgia, which would contribute to enhancing economic cooperation and tourism and building further partnerships between the private sectors in both countries.
The King also held talks with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, focusing on the strategic cooperation and partnership between Jordan and the European Union, as well as the current regional issues.
Mogherini stressed that Jordan is an important 'stabilizing factor' in the Middle East region, and praised the Kingdom's role in hosting a large number of Syrian refugees despite enormous pressures on the national economy and resources.
