Government rejects Syrian president rhetoric against Jordan
AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian government on Friday rejected statements by Syrian President Bashar Assad to Sputnik Russian news agency, in which he attacked Jordan.
In a statement to Petra, Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications and Government Spokesman Mohammed Al Momani said that the Syrian president's remarks are rejected and nothing but fabricated allegations. He added that it is regrettable that the Syrian president talks about Jordan position, while he lost control over the majority of his country's territory.' The Assad's statements, the minister added, are unrealistic and indicate a wrong assessment of the Syrian crisis. Momani said it is unacceptable to believe that the first country that called for and convinced the international community of finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis is now mobilizing towards a military solution to the crisis.
The minister said the Syrian president knows well that Jordan is a balancing power in the region, because it enjoys international respect. The Kingdom's stance towards the Syrian crisis is still the same, Momani said, adding that Jordan reiterated the importance of preserving the territorial unity of Syria and called to fight terrorist organizations in Syria.
As for Assad's statements, which he based on 'information', Momani said the remarks are baseless and utter allegations, which proved to be wrong and unwise, despite being repeated over the past few years.
Assad should focus on bringing hope and stability to his country instead of leveling accusations.
