AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Tuesday, met with European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, and her accompanying delegation.
The King and the top European diplomat, who is in the Kingdom to attend the opening session of the Arab Summit opening tomorrow, discussed relations between Jordan and the EU, and current regional developments.
His Majesty commended the advanced strategic relations between Jordan and the bloc, noting EU support to the Kingdom.
He expressed hope that an International Conference on Syria, which will be organized by the EU next month, will lay out a vision for rebuilding the war-torn country when a political solution is found, and follow up on the outcome of last year's London donor conference to provide aid to countries hosting Syrian refugees, including Jordan.
The meeting underlined the importance of reviving the Middle East peace process and relaunching serious and effective negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis, based on the two-state solution as the only solution to end the conflict.
The meeting also dealt with the situation in Iraq as well as regional and international efforts in the war on terrorism.
Mogherini said the EU is committed to supporting Jordan in various fields, noting the Kingdom's key role to promote regional security and stability.
