Planning minister announces agenda of Brussels Conference on Syria
AMMONNEWS - Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury on Wednesday, announced the agenda of the Brussels Conference 'Supporting the future of Syria and the region' , which will be held on April 4-5.
The minister made the announcement as he chaired a meeting that was attended by the ambassadors of the EU, the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Kuwait and the UN who will co-chair the conference.
The Conference seeks to reconfirm existing pledges and identify additional support to Syrian inside Syria and in the neighbouring countries, as well as to the respective host communities.
It also aims to support a lasting political resolution to the Syrian conflict through an inclusive and Syrian-led political transition process under the UN auspices.
The conference will also assess how post-agreement assistance could be provided once a political transition is underway.
Fakhoury affirmed the importance of the conference for Jordan as it comes to follow up on the outcome of the London Donor Conference, which was held last year.
He said the Brussels Conference will review the extent of implementing pledges that had been made during the 2016 London Conference, stressing the importance of building on accomplishments that have been made during this conference.
'The conference also provides an opportunity to highlight the burden shouldered by the Kingdom due to hosting Syrian refugees and call for more financial support to the Kingdom,' the minister added.
