PM orders to follow up on decision to cut public spending
AMMONNEW Prime Minister, Hani al-Mulki, Tuesday, instructed Minister of Finance, Omar Malhas, to follow up on a decision the Cabinet took last week on developing a unified mechanism and reviewing the amount of money paid to government representatives for their membership on boards of directors of state-owned companies.
Earlier, the Cabinet decided to transfer all allowances and bonuses received by government officials for representing the state on the boards of companies to a special fund at the Finance Ministry.
The collected amount will be distributed evenly among all representatives, even when a certain official represents the government in more than one company board.
The decision comes to cut public expenditure, including reductions in the financial benefits of senior officials.
The premier also gave order to deduct 10 per cent of salaries above JD2,000 for public employees, including the prime minister and cabinet members. The cuts will be transferred annually to the treasury.S -
