New fund to be launched for families of military, security agencies' martyrs
AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, the supreme commander of the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army, Sunday called on the General Command Headquarters for a meeting with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, LT. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat.
The King and the army chief discussed a number of issues of interest to the armed forces.
The supreme commander voiced his pride in the armed forces' personnel and commended them for their morale and the distinguished level the various units had achieved.
His Majesty gave his directive to the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff to set up a fund to support the families of the martyrs of the armed forces and security agencies, besides the support these families currently receive. He ordered the allocation of JD5 million from the Royal Court's budget to the fund.
The supreme commander emphasised the need for government support of the fund and to open it up for donations by the private sector. He also directed that military trust funds incorporate the martyrs' families into their finance services free of interest.
His Majesty also ordered boosting the Economic and Social Association of Retired Servicemen and Veterans, revisit its law and restructure it to replenish its lending portfolios and support productive projects of retired servicemen, introduce specialized training programmes for them and assist them to find jobs.
