Jordanian husband jailed for Facebook divorce scheme
AMMONNEWS - The husband of a 29 year-old Jordanian woman has been jailed after defaming her a bid to avoid a a divorce settlement.
The man, who had been working away from home for close to a year at the time, rang the mother of three earlier this year and asked her to send him nude photographs via Facebook Messenger. He claimed to miss her and the woman agreed to send the pictures.
He betrayed her trust by immediately distributing the photos to friends and asking them to set up fake profiles on the social networking site in her name, and then sending links to her friends and family. He then accused her of “e-prostitution” and filed for an immediate divorce in which she would have no property rights. Her family immediately turned against her, forcing her to flee to a shelter.
It was a scheme to divorce her without paying her any money, The Jordan Times reports. The husband’s involvement was eventually uncovered by a private investigator and a lawsuit issued against him. He was found guilty but her reputation and social standing have not recovered, the paper claims.
