Snowfall begins in Ajloun, heavy downpours in Amman
AMMONNEWS - Snowfall began in the northeastern mountains of Ajloun Tuesday afternoon, where municipal authorities deployed snow-sweeping vehicles on roads and crews to respond to emergencies.
A depression, which began affecting the Kingdom early today, dumped snow in the highlands in the northwestern region, blocking some roads. Vehicles on key routes were removing snow and reopening roads leading to hospitals, local officials said.
The governor of Ajloun urged local residents to restrict their movement and to venture out only for necessities, and to follow civil defence instructions and precautions issued during the snow storm. The Greater Amman Municipality has also put in place an emergency plan to deal with the depression in the capital, where heavy downpours inundated streets, but there were no reports of disruptions or flooding of the drains in roads, intersections or tunnels, said its spokesperson.
Tenants in lower floors were also urged for caution against flooding.
