Kalaldeh urges early preps for decentralized local elections
AMMONNEWS - Independent Election Commission (IEC) president Khaled Kalaldeh Tuesday stressed early preparations for decentralized municipal elections due to be held in summer through a master plan encompassing all aspects and stages of the electoral process.
He told a workshop on decentralized elections that the IEC is in the process of adopting all procedures to hold the polls with 'utmost integrity, responsibility, transparency and best criteria'.
IEC secretary general Ali Darabkeh explained the main features and frameworks of decentralization, stressing its role in enhancing participation in the decision-making process and comprehensive local development as well as its importance in advancing the legislative and oversight role of the House of Representatives.
He said the decentralization project had been fully supported by His Majesty King Abdullah as it sets the priorities of governorates and developmental and investment plans and improve services to the public in various regions.
The IEC media and communications director also gave a briefing on the commission's awareness campaign for the upcoming polls, outlining the targeted groups and proposed partners for the campaign.
