Anti-Narcotics Department foils three smuggling attempts
AMMONNEWS - The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), has foiled three separate attempts to smuggle large quantities of narcotic drugs into and out of the country through different crossings.
A statement by the AND department Monday said that its cadres received a tip that unidentified individuals had prepared huge hauls of narcotic capsules to be smuggled outside the Kingdom.
The statement added the AND team was able to identify the truck and the method of smuggling.
Searching the truck, AND personnel found about 500,000 pills hidden in secret places inside the body of the vehicle that were prepared for this purpose. AND agents said they arrested the involved man, seized the pills and opened an investigation with the smuggler.
In another separate case, the agency said that a special team tasked with following up on information of smuggling drugs outside the country, was able to identify and arrest two suspects, who were planning to smuggle 76,000 drug pills.
The suspects, who hold Arab nationalities, confessed to their involvement in the case that was referred to court, the AND said.
Also, at Queen Alia International Airport, AND cadres have stopped and searched the luggage of three suspects of Arab nationalities, as they were leaving the country. AND agents arrested the men after they found 110,000 narcotic pills hidden inside gift bags. Following investigation, the three men were referred to court, the AND said.
