Jordanian gov’t keen to learn tithe management from M’sia
AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian government is keen to learn from Malaysia’s tithe management, as it has been described by the country’s Minister of Endowments, Dr Haeil Abdul Hafeez Daoud, as a perfect role model for Islamic countries in the world.
According to him he had heard many good things about Malaysia, and hoped to learn from Malaysia’s experience in managing tithe funds for the benefit of Muslims.
“I am also very proud with the development, the high civic values and civilisation that have been achieved by Malaysia as an Islamic state,” said Dr Haeil, during a 45-minute meeting with the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, at the former’s office here, yesterday.
The meeting was also attended by Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man, Perlis Mufti Assoc Prof Dr Mohamad Asri Zainul Abidin, and acting chief executive officer of the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs), Ustaz Mohamad Nizam Mohamad Nor.
Dr Mohd Asri and Mohamad Nizam also acted as the intermediaries and translators. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin led a delegation from MAIPs, on a two-day social responsibility programme for Malaysian students in Jordan.
Dr Haeil said his government has great respect for Malaysia, and even offered assistance to Malaysian students who were facing difficulty while studying in Jordan.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also MAIPs president, explained the management of tithes in Malaysia, including the income tax exemption for those who paid tithes, as well as how the assistance was channeled to help eligible recipients.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Jordanian government for providing facilities to Malaysian students studying in the country, which has produced many Islamic scholars from various fields of study.
“I hope there will be more room for cooperation between the two countries, to further strengthen the ties between Malaysia and Jordan,” he said, inviting Dr Haeil to visit Perlis to get a clearer picture on the progress of Islam, and the tithe management system in Malaysia.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also handed out special aid to students from Perlis on behalf of MAIPs, and met other Malaysian students studying in the country during the ‘Liqa Mawaddah’ programme.
