Crown Prince visits cochlear implant patients at King Hussein Medical Center
AMMONNEWS - HRH the Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Regent, on Wednesday, visited cochlear surgery department at King Hussein Medical Center and checked on patients who had received cochlear implants as part of Prince Hussein's initiative, 'Hearing Without Borders.'
The Crown Prince also checked on the conditions of patients with hearing disabilities and was briefed on stages of treatment that children go through during and after the cochlear implants, in order to achieve positive results and restore their hearing and help them pronounce words.
Prince Hussein instructed to develop aural mobile clinic, to perform medical tests and ensure rehabilitation of patients as well as conduct field surveys regarding hearing disabilities.
The 'Hearing Without Borders' initiative, which was launched by HRH the Crown Prince last year, seeks to provide all support and assistance for the rehabilitation of deaf children who receive cochlear implants, to provide the needed language therapy and training for these children after their surgery and to community awareness about the causes of deafness.
The plan also aims to establish rehabilitation centres in all areas of the Kingdom for children who receive cochlear implants to enhance their speech and pronunciation.
Since 2013, nearly 471 children underwent cochlear implant operations at the hospitals of Royal Medical Services, King Abdullah University and Prince Hamzah bin Al Hussein.
The Crown Prince's initiative led to an increased number of people benefiting from cochlear implant operations, which are considered expensive, by providing financial support.
