FM: Syrian refugees constitute 21 percent of Jordan's population
AMMONNEWS - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh said that Syrian refugees now make up 21 percent of Jordan’s population, noting that Jordan has received waves of refugees over the years due to wars and the resulting violence in neighboring countries.
The minister added, in a press statement released on World Refugee Day, that Jordan was, and is still, a safe haven for its brethren, who were forced to flee their countries due to conflicts.
'World Refugee Day coincides with Jordan's hosting about 1.5 million Syrian refugees, who form 21 percent of the Kingdom's population,' he said, noting that the Kingdom continues to fulfill its humanitarian role in taking in and caring for refugees, sharing with them the Kingdom's limited resources.
'For 76 years, Palestinian refugees have been waiting to return to their lands at a time when the international community failed to solve their just cause,' Judeh added, noting that Jordan hosts 42 percent of Palestinian refugees, whose number stands at 7 million.
