Jordan adopts special strategy to counter terrorism, says interior minister
AMMONNEWS - Interior Minister Hussein Majali said Jordan is making every effort to counter terrorism and extremism through developing a strategy involving civil society institutions.
During his meeting with U.S. Coordinator for Counterterrorism, ambassador Tina S. Kaidanow, and the U.S. ambassador to Jordan, Alice G. Wells, Majali said Jordan’s strategy is based upon dialogue, persuasion, and fighting ignorance with enlightened ideas, sound arguments and cooperation with other countries in this field, as well as battling terrorist groups through all available means.
Islam rejects violence and terrorism in all its forms and has nothing to do with terror organizations that hide behind the cloak of Islam to carry out their suspicious agendas, the minister said, stressing the need to address economic and political challenges facing the region and its peoples, which would contribute greatly to blunt terrorism and hinder its spread.
Talks also touched upon the situation on Jordan’s borders, where the minister explained that the nation’s military and security forces have heightened efforts to maintain security and stability, as well as to thwart smuggling operations, especially arms and narcotics.
U.S. officials said their country is committed to supporting Jordan on the basis of its long-standing ties between the two countries, as well as Jordan's supportive stances to encourage peace and stability.
