UK Ambassador Mr. Philip Parham Visits The British University in Dubai
AMMONNEWS - The British Ambassador to the UAE, Philip Parham and representatives from the British Embassy visited The British University in Dubai’s campus at Dubai International Academic City on February 19th.
He was welcomed by Prof Abdullah Alshamsi, Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Martin Prince, Registrar, and staff from The British University in Dubai , and went on to meet students and alumni for a broad and informative discussion .
His Excellency Mr. Parham has been the UK Ambassador in the UAE since July 2014, and the visit was intended to acquaint His Excellency with the University’s Programmes and meet with its students, alumni and Faculty to affirm the special connection that BUiD enjoys with the UK since its establishment in 2003.
Mr. Parham has served in various postings in the UK Foreign Office, Washington, Riyadh , New York and Africa. His current mission is to promote UK Security and commercial interests in the UAE.
Ambassador Parham said: 'I was humbled by the very warm welcome I received from Prof Al Shamsi, Mr Prince, their faculty colleagues and the students and alumni. I enjoyed my illuminating discussion with them. They explained the unique things BUiD offers, and the value of the British link. Education is an increasingly important element of UK/UAE relations, and BUiD is testimony to the cutting edge education and research which UK universities provide to students in UAE.”
BUiD has maintained strong connections with UK bodies here in the UAE since its Unique university model was developed by then Consul General Simon Collins, Tim Gore from British Council, the British Business Group (BBG) (which is one of BUiD’s founders and currently one of the largest and most active such groups in the world) ,and Senior representatives from Dubai Ruler’s Court.
The British University in Dubai (BUiD) was established in 2003 to be the Middle East’s leading research-based postgraduate university, facilitating world-class education, training and research. licensed by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and internationally (NARIC) recognised for its top quality education, This is on par with British standards thanks to its association with distinguished UK-based universities such as the University of Manchester, Cardiff University, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Glasgow.

The British Embassy in UAE is highly supportive of BUiD activities; with the British Consul General being a regular VIP guest at BUiD’s graduation ceremonies, that have now awarded over 600 postgraduate degrees including 9 doctorates to a diverse student population including 30% Emiratis .
