PM, British minister discuss regional developments
AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Tuesday discussed with the British Minister of the State for Middle East Affairs, Tobias Ellwood, bilateral cooperation and the latest developments in the Middle East, especially in Syria and Iraq.
During the meeting, attended by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Ibrahim Saif and British Ambassador in Amman Peter Millett, the premier reviewed the repercussions of the situation on the region, mainly because of Jordan hosting a large number of Syrian refugees who are placing increasing pressure on the Kingdom's key sectors and services.
Ensour also pointed out the challenges facing the Kingdom, especially in the economic field.
He also briefed the British Minister on the political reforms carried out by Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II that have contributed to boosting democracy and freedom.
The talks tackled the international efforts to counter the Daesh terrorist organization.
The two sides also discussed the ongoing efforts to the rebuild the war ravaged Gaza, and the importance of contributing in such efforts to alleviate the humanitarian and economically difficult situation of Gazans.
