Prince El-Hassan: Syrian refugees crisis requires national-level thinking
AMMONNEWS - HRH Prince El-Hassan bin Talal, on Sunday, visited the Ministry of Interior and was briefed on challenges Jordan faces because of the Syrian refugees crisis.
Prince El-Hassan said that what Jordan was doing for the Syrian refugees amounted to a national task equivalent to the combined efforts of several countries, stressing that the basis for that is the Jordanian sense of morality, which helped to overcome the pressures resulting from hosting the refugees.
He added that the growing number of refugees requires regional-level thinking and devising a plan to face the pressing challenges.
Prince El Hassan stressed the need to adopting a wise and well-directed regional approach to contain the Syrian crisis and stop bloodshed through a comprehensive political solution that preserves the unity of Syria's land and people, calling at the same time to find some kind of integration between forced migration and local development to increase endurance capacity for years to come.
HRH expressed his appreciation of all those working towards fulfilling the national humanitarian mission and caring for others.
Interior Minister Hussein Al-Majali said the government and all its security, military and civilian bodies have been dealing with the repercussions of the Syrian crisis with utmost professionalism and efficiency, noting that the establishment of an administration for Syrian refugees affairs has contributed enormously in coordinating all issues related to hosting them in the Kingdom.
The Director of Syrian Refugee Camp Affairs, Wadah Al-Hamoud, gave a briefing on the Syrian refugees, titled 'Reality and Challenges,' and its various repercussions on the internal situation in Jordan.
He estimated the number of Syrian refugees at about 1.4 million, 640,000 of whom are registered as refugees.
