AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II discussed here on Thursday with US Vice-President Joe Biden the strategic ties between the two countries and the latest developments in the Middle East.
During the meeting, the King warned against the dangerous Israeli escalation against the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. This escalation, King Abdullah said, would increase the suffering of the Palestinian people and foil attempts to resume peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
The King also warned against the vacuum caused by the stalled negotiations on the final status issues which are based on the two-state solution.
Further, His Majesty briefed the US Vice-President on the latest developments and challenges facing the Middle East, mainly the Syrian crisis and the situation in Iraq. Jordan and US see eye-to-eye on these issues, the King affirmed, underlining the importance of fighting terrorist organizations and movements.
On Syria, the King called for creating a suitable atmosphere to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis. He also called on the international community to provide the Syrian people with their humanitarian needs. King Abdullah urged the world countries to increase the assistance for the communities hosting the Syrian refugees.
The King highlighted the huge pressure being exerted on the Kingdom’s limited resources as a result of hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees.
On Iraq, the King said that Jordan was keen to maintain the safety and territorial unity of the Arab nation, calling for a comprehensive political process that includes all segments of the Iraqi society. King Abdullah also called for a compromise solution to elect a president, prime minister and Parliament speaker in Iraq, satisfying all parties.
The US vice president stressed his country’s keenness to boost the strategic partnership with Jordan as well as maintaining coordination on all regional issues of joint concern.
