Foreign minister, U.S. Secretary of State discuss Syria, Iraq
AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Nasser Judeh, on Sunday, discussed with U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, Jordanian-U.S. relations and a number of Middle East issues, namely the Syrian crisis, the latest developments in Iraq and the stalled peace negotiations and ways to revive them.
The two sides stressed the importance of exerting concerted efforts by all relevant parties and the international community to address the current situation in Iraq, which threatens the security of the entire region.
Judeh voiced hope that all concerned parties in Iraq work together to achieve national harmony and consensus and establish an all-encompassing political process representative of all components of the Iraqi people. On Syria, the foreign minister renewed Jordan’s call for reaching a political solution that ensures the safety, security and unity of Syria with the participation of all components of the Syrian people.
The two sides discussed the Palestinian-Israeli peace process and challenges it faces and the importance of resuming negotiations. Judeh said the failure to bring about the two-state solution, under which an independent Palestinian state shall be established, doesn’t only cause regional instability, but threaten international peace and security, through fueling extremism and terrorism.
Kerry expressed the U.S.’s appreciation for the pivotal role of Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to achieve security and stability in the region.
He said that Jordan is a model in the region and represents a distinct voice of moderation and peace.
