King meets with President of the Jordanian-French Parliamentary Friendship Committee
AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II met on Wednesday at the Husayniyah Palace with the President of the Jordanian-French Parliamentary Friendship Committee, Christian Kamrrman, and Senator Christian Cointat to discuss cooperation between Jordan and France, means to further boost it as well as the latest regional and international developments.
The King stressed the strong ties between Jordan and France as well as his keenness to enhance these in various fields in the interest of both the countries.
His Majesty reviewed the political reforms achieved by Jordan, including the launch of new initiatives that aim at enhancing democracy, transparency and public participation in decision making.
On the Syrian crisis, the King said a comprehensive political solution is the only means to end the suffering of the Syrian people and preserve the country's unity.
He also spoke about the burden shouldered by Jordan as a result of hosting an increasing number of Syrian refugees on its territories, urging the international community to support the Kingdom to enable it to continue humanitarian and relief services to the refugees.
In this context, the King praised the support provided by France to Jordan for the purpose.
On Palestinian-Israeli peace, His Majesty urged all the concerned parties as well as the international community to support the efforts aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region based on the two-state solution, international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as per the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The King warned against the continuation of Israeli policies and unilateral actions that target Jerusalem and its holy places and their impact on efforts to achieve peace in the region.
On Iraq, King Abdullah stressed the importance of preserving Iraq's unity and stability through a political process with the participation of all components of the Iraqi people without exception.
The French officials praised King Abdullah's continued efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East as well as measures taken by the Kingdom to bring about reforms in the country.
They also hailed Jordan's efforts to offer services to the Syrian refugees in the Kingdom.
