Arab foreign ministers start emergency meeting in Cairo
AMMONNEWS - The emergency meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers Council started at the headquarters of the Arab League Secretariat General in Cairo on Wednesday.
The Council will listen to a briefing by the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, on the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations and the hurdles put by Israel in the path of these negotiations, including its refusal to release the fourth batch of Palestinian prisoners.
The ministers are expected to issue a statement in which they will affirm their support to the Palestinian stance as well as to a recommendation for holding negotiations within the set timeframe to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that should lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Jordan's delegation to the meeting, held upon a Palestinian request, is led by the Kingdom's Ambassador to Egypt and its permanent representative to the Arab League, Bishr Khasawneh.
