AMMONNEWS -Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Ensour stated that the policy of Jordan to receive Syrian refugees for humanitarian purposes has not changed and is committed to the relevant international conventions, adding that 'those who seek asylum humanitarian does not hinder their incomes.'
Ensour stressed at the same time that Jordan is interested in taking security precautions.
This came during a meeting in his office Thursday morning with the High Commissioner of the United Nations Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres. Guterres discussed with him ways to strengthen the existing cooperation between Jordan and the UNHCR to help Syrian refugees .
He drew the Prime Minister during the meeting, which was attended by a representative of the High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan , Andrew Harper. The burdens borne by Jordan as a result of hosting about 600,000 Syrian refugees. Following the events in Syria amounted to the cost of their humanitarian and development, which was about 9.1 billion dollars despite the lack of resources and economic potential, not including costs for social security .
Guterres stressed his appreciation to Jordan for their humanitarian role of receiving Syrian refugees. He also pointed to the efforts of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) of increasing the awareness of the international community of the size of the burdens borne by Jordan and the need to support its efforts to continue the performance of this humanitarian mission.
He also stressed the strong significance of supporting Jordan , which is the basic foundation for security and stability in the region and the world.
He pointed to the importance of measures taken in order to facilitate the entry of groups. Most of whom affected by the ongoing events in Syria, particularly the elderly , children and families. furthering his message by pointing out that the Commission will work in collaboration with UNICEF to ensure access to all refugee children in schools .
