‘52 candidates win by acclamation in municipal polls’
AMMAN (Petra) — A total of 52 municipal election candidates in 27 municipalities won by acclamation as of Thursday, the Municipal Affairs Ministry said on Friday.
In addition, one candidate won by acclamation the mayoral position in the Quraiqera and Feynan Municipality.
On Saturday, officials said a special ink will be used in the elections on Tuesday to ensure the “highest levels of transparency and integrity”.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Municipal Affairs Minister Walid Masri, Interior Minister Hussein Majali said a Canadian company specialised in the production of ink has provided Jordan with the necessary quantities.
Majali, former municipal affairs minister, said the Jordan Armed Forces will be responsible for maintaining security outside polling stations.
Meanwhile, the Independent Elections Commission said an operations room to supervise the elections will receive citizens’ observations and complaints on the following numbers: 5607329/5607463/5607317.
