AMMAN (Petra) – Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Ibrahim Saif on Thursday received Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, Danish Minister for Development Cooperation Christian Friis Bach and the accompanying delegation to discuss bilateral ties, especially in the economic and development sectors, and ways to enhance these ties across all fields.
Saif expressed Jordan's appreciation for the humanitarian assistance of $4.7 million, provided by Denmark to the Syrian refugees in Jordan.
He also briefed the Danish delegation about the current economic challenges and the humanitarian and financial consequences being faced by Jordan due to the ongoing events in the region, including having to host a large number of Syrian refugees.
The latter move exerts new economic and social burdens on the budget, pressure on the infrastructure and services as well as on education, health and water sectors, especially in the northern and middle regions of the Kingdom which host the largest numbers of Syrian refugees, he noted.
Princess Mary, on her part, praised the strong ties between the two countries, showed readiness to continue her support to Jordan and the region, especially regarding the Syrian refugees, and commended Jordan's humanitarian role in hosting the Syrian refugees.
