jordanian protesters at Egyptian Embassy: "War on Islam in Egypt"
From Mohammad Abu Hmaed - Ammon News Arabic
AMMONNEWS - Dozens of Jordanian activists and university students protested on Wednesday afternoon in front of the Egyptian Embassy in Amman, condemning the Egyptian military's crackdown on pro-Mursi demonstrators in Cairo.
The protest came in response to a call for a larger protest by the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood, to be held at 5 PM in front of the Egyptian Embassy in the Abdoun neighborhood in Amman.
Security forces on Wednesday arrested a number of non-Jordanian protesters who took part in the sit-in in front of the Egyptian Embassy in Amman, after police warned earlier on Wednesday that it will arrest and detain any participant in the demonstration who is not a Jordanian national.
The Muslim Brotherhood and activists condemned what they described as 'massacres' committed in the Egyptian security forces' crackdown to disperse supporters of deposed president Mohamad Mursi in Rabaa al-Adawiya Square in Cairo and Al Nahda in Giza.
The Jordanian protesters blasted their government and regime for 'blessing the military coup' in Egypt, headed by Egyptian Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, according to their expression.
They called on Jordan's government to stand by the demands of the Jordanian people in support of the 'political legitimacy' in Egypt.
Protesters described the ongoing events in Egypt as a 'War on Islam.'
Police and Gendarmerie forces meanwhile reinforced security presence around the Egyptian Embassy, and blocked the roads leading to the embassy vicinity.
The Public Security Department (PSD) had issued warnings to protesters not to gather in front of the Embassy or hold a protest in its vicinity.
