Gov't transfers JD10 mil in urgent payment to King Abdullah University Hospital
AMMAN – Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour announced that the government has transferred JD10 million to the King Abdullah University Hospital as an urgent payment to partially cover the outstanding dues owed by the government.
During a visit to the hospital, accompanied by a number of concerned ministers, Ensour said the visit was aimed to discuss the financial situation of the hospital and the means to support the medical facility so that it is able to continue providing health care to Jordanian and Arab patients.
At a meeting with hospital Director General Hussein Al Ais and President of Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in the presence of the ministers of higher education and scientific research, environment, planning and international cooperation and tourism, the prime minister said the government was committed to resolve the issue of debt that the Health Ministry owed to hospitals.
He highlighted the accomplishments made by Jordan's medical sector and stressed the need to preserve the good reputation that it has earned.
Ensour was also briefed by the hospital's director regarding the medical services offered to the patients.
Among the main challenges facing the hospital were the debt owed to the hospital, which stands at JD35 million, in addition to other financial dues amounting to JD28 million.
The prime minister also visited the JUST library where he was briefed by its director on the important role played by the library in providing data and knowledge to the students, teaching staff and researchers.
Ensour also visited the Jordan Silos and Supply General Company (JSSGC) where he was briefed on its role in storing grain at the silos, distributing wheat to the mills as well as barley to the fodder centres in the northern governorates. (Petra)
