Teachers halt classes at Zaatari school over scuffle with refugees
AMMONNEWS - The Gendamerie forces on Tuesday evacuated nearly 80 teachers from a school inside the Zaatari Syrian refugee camp in Mafraq, northeastern Jordan, after a scuffle with refugees.
A number of refugees inside the camp reportedly attacked teachers at the Saudi-sponsored Khalid Ibn al-Waleed school for refugees inside the camp.
Teachers at the school told Ammon News that the refugees vandalized their cars, and attacked a teacher, stabbing him in the stomach.
The injured teacher was taken to the hospital after suffering from stab wounds, and is reported to be in critical condition.
Other teachers sustained bruises as a result of the clashes, Ahmad Bani Hamad, a teacher at the school told Ammon News over the phone.
The teachers at the school, sponsored and financed by Saudi Arabia, decided to halt classes until they are provided with adequate security, after a series of attacks on them by refugees inside the camp, the teachers said.
Meanwhile, the Public Security Department's press office said that a clash erupted between one of the teachers and a number of refugees outside the school, prompting the teacher to return inside the school for protection.
The police's narrative described the incident as a 'personal conflict between the teacher and a number of refugees,' and denied that any injuries were reported.
