Amman electoral panel to start receiving candidacy applications Tuesday
AMMAN – The Amman Municipality elections committee has completed preparations to receive applications from candidates wishing to contest the municipal council elections over three days starting Tuesday, the head of the committee, judge Qassem Momani, said on Saturday.
Momani said the venue for receiving applications for all the capital's districts will be the committee's headquarters at the Amman Municipality Gallery building in Ras El Ain.
He said the panel decided to conduct a draw to determine the order in which candidates would be considered to prevent overcrowding and 'to give an equal opportunity to all candidates to have their names in the suitable order.' Momani said the committee will receive all the applications from all the candidates present on Tuesday morning and will then conduct the draw for all the candidates running in all the capital's 22 districts.
The number of voters in the Greater Amman Municipality stands at 1,344,775, including 665,922 males and 678,853 females.
Local elections will be held across the Kingdom on August 27 under the supervision of the Independent Elections Commission. (Petra)
